Anti-wrinkle Injections - Botulinum Toxin
Anti-wrinkle injections are a prescription-only medicine that are injected into muscles and used to temporarily improve the look of both moderate to severe wrinkles.
Anti-wrinkle injections are made from a drug made called Botulinum Toxin which has been approved by The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency for both medical and cosmetic purposes for over 20 years.
This simple treatment produces highly effective results and a quick fix method of improving the look of wrinkles.
Botulinum Toxin is a purified nerve-blocking agent, that is used to treat over-active muscles. The drug works by blocking nerve transmission to the muscles in which it is injected, putting them to rest for up to six months. The result for the client is smooth looking skin often with the eradication of frown lines, crows feet and forehead lines.
Does it hurt?
We do everything to ensure that your treatment will be as pain free as possible. The needle we use is very small, the same size as an acupuncture needle, and numbing cream is available on request. Local anaesthetic is not generally required
How long does the treatment take?
This depends upon how many areas being treated. A full face of three areas would typically require 20 minutes
When will I see results, what results should I expect and how long to they last?
RResults are visible usually within a week of the anti-wrinkle injection treatment.
There is no change in sensation and no numbness. Clients will also retain the ability to make facial expressions, although there will be a reduced ability to raise eyebrows and in the furrow between the eyes. It is possible that the client may wish for a slight eyebrow lift, this can be achieved with botulinum toxin.
How long each client sees the effect of the anti-wrinkle injections is personal to them, however typically clients should expect to have 4-5 months and perhaps up to 6 months of effect from the injections.
Will I need to take time off?
No there should be no downtime after anti-wrinkle injection treatments. There may be some slight red bumps visible for a couple of hours post treatment. These are coverable with makeup.
Clients should avoid any strenuous activity on the day of treatment as well as sauna and sunbed use. It is also advisable for clients to keep their head in an elevated position for 4 hours after treatment.
Post treatment advice will be given.
Are there any side effects?
Most clients report no side effects at all. Research shows 5% of clients may get a mild headache after the treatment. Extremely rarely clients report a temporary eyelid weakness or brow drooping (ptosis) resulting from the injection, this will reverse over time and is a very rare side effect. Occasionally clients may notice there will be a minor asymmetry evident after the treatment, top up treatments may help to reverse this effect but otherwise it will resolve in time.
Is the treatment safe?
Yes, this drug had been given clinically for a number of years for a range of medical conditions in much larger doses before it was given for aesthetic purposes. The drug itself is given in minute doses, which is not enough to cause any illness or unwanted permanent effects. For your safety we are licensed, insured and I am fully trained and registered by a recognised regulatory body. All documents for insurance and registration purposes are available for you to view upon request.
How do I know if anti-wrinkle injections are right for me?
Before any treatment each client has a full free of charge consultation which will provide both the client and myself an opportunity to discuss what they would like to achieve and an to agree a no obligation personalised treatment plan.
