Although referred to as Smokers lines, these lines around the mouth do not just affect smokers, they can affect anyone who smiles!
These annoying lines can be best treated with a combination of dermal fillers and botulinum toxin. A light dermal filler will plump up the lines and restore lost volume while the botulinum toxin
will prevent the strong contraction of the upper lip, reducing the presentation of the lines. This creates a restored and more youthful appearance of the mouth area without changing the shape
or structure of the lip. However, clients will sometimes choose to have a single botulinum toxin treatment first before adding a dermal filler.
Botulinum toxin will gently relax the orbicularis oris muscle, which is a complex of muscles in the lips that encircles the mouth. After treatment, the lips will still be able to function normally, although occasionally a client will note they can’t whistle quite so well after treatment, it will not prevent speaking, eating or smiling normally.
The procedure takes moments to complete and will take effect within a few days. Maximum effect is at 14 days and will last for a period of between 3-6 months. To maintain the results further treatments will be necessary. Dermal filler treatments in the area will be instantly evident, with a further improvement taking place over the next two week period. Results from dermal filler treatment in this area typically last for 9-12 months.
